Consulting
Straight-talking business and technical consulting from 25+ years across IT, security, media and manufacturing — including the honest answer when I'm not the right fit.
Most consultants specialise in one thing. I've spent 25-plus years across mobile and computer repair, web development, cyber security, AI, electronics, and broadcasting — and that breadth turns out to be the actual value, because most real business problems don't fit neatly inside one specialty.
What "Consulting" Actually Means Here
Sometimes it's helping a business work out which of the dozens of available AI tools is actually worth their time, based on where their hours genuinely go, not on whatever's currently trending. Sometimes it's a second opinion on a technical decision before real money gets committed to it. Sometimes it's simply asking the one question most people skip before starting a project: what does success here actually look like, specifically?
The Honest Part Most Consultants Skip
I turn down work that isn't a genuine fit, and I'd rather say "this isn't really my area, here's someone better suited" than take a job and do it adequately. That's cost me short-term income more than once. It's also why clients keep coming back — including several who first came to me on a job I said no to.
Where the AI Ambassador Title Actually Comes From
A meaningful part of this work now involves translating genuinely useful AI developments into plain language for people who don't want the hype-cycle version or the doom-cycle version — just an honest, accurate read on what a tool can and can't do for their specific situation. It threads through everything else I do, because AI now touches almost all of it.
What's Included
An initial conversation to properly understand what you're actually trying to solve, honest advice — including "you don't need me for this" when that's the truth — and ongoing support if there's a genuine fit. I'd rather build a long relationship on honest advice than a single invoice on a sale that didn't really serve you.
